Colourfield – Coalition
In a desire to move away from modern ‘abstract photography’ I went back to the roots of 1950s Abstract Expressionism. With this in mind, I started experimenting with different methods of reproducing a ‘colorfield effect’ not using paint on canvas, but through photography. After months of experimentation, I reached a viable method of creating images that capture the feelings and emotions that I first experienced as a child staring up at an abstract expressionist painting on the wall.
Coalition is series ‘a body formed by the coalescing of originally distinct elements’ taken of The Houses of Parliament at three different times of the day and year, 08:00 Mid-July, 15:00 September and 22:00hrs Late December. Through colour and movement these images attempt to explore the often turbulent relationship in the coalition government of the time.
